China Industrial Photographer - Shanghai Textile Factory

Recently documented the process of thread & fabric making in a textile factory in China, as well as garment design and finishing, following the full creative process from raw wool arriving in bulk at the warehouse all the way to the end product ready to be shipped out for retail distribution. This corporate documentary was shot for an anonymous retailer to showcase the quality of fabrication throughout their production lines in Asia.

Personal Project - Japan Ceramic Factory

Kouraku porcelain factory, Arita, Japan. This is one of the oldest in the country and now almost completely abandoned.

Back in 1865, when the factory started operations, it was a very successful enterprise. At the time, Kouraku was one of the biggest and most modern pottery factories in Japan, employing over 500 persons and exporting its products internationally. However, due to the severe economical crisis that has been hitting Japan for decades and ever growing competition from neighbouring countries, the family business has been forced to lay off most of its employees so that today only 15 workers still remain on site.

In an effort to revive this historical heritage relic, local authorities are now sponsoring a program to welcome local and foreign artists to use the factory as a workshop and organize various residencies. The plan is also to open a café and guest-house to generate a little income, which hopefully will help making the global restoration process a success.

China Luxury Retail Photographer - Berluti, Shanghai

As Shanghai continues to attract more and more luxury names into its thriving market, the French luxury shoemaker Berluti recently opened a new flagship store in Pudong's financial district. For this occasion, the brand invited several high-end craftsmen to display some antique tailoring techniques to a few selected clients. I was assigned by the agency Peter Franklin to photograph and document the skills presented there with an artistic documentary approach, in an effort to showcase the raw materials and noble gestures that have passed through generations.
