China Corporate Photographer - LDC Annual Report

Over the past 6 months, I have been working on a long-term corporate reportage for the Louis Dreyfus Company, documenting their assets and activities around Asia. The aim of this project was to create a tailor-made corporate image bank with region-specific features, to be included in the company's global annual report, corporate magazine and other marketing platforms.

Countries covered during this assignment: China, Vietnam, Indonesia.

Here are some photos taken in China, where operations include seed oil, apple juice and sugar processing.

China Industrial Photographer - Ship Recycling

Zhoushan shipyard, just south of Shanghai, is ground zero for a massive recycling process handled by Dutch company Sea 2 Cradle, who are currently dismantling ships and oil rigs for spare parts to be sold and metal to be fused and re-used in other forms.

The process is basically to strip the vessels from all cables, furniture and equipment to keep only the bare structure, then cut the whole thing down in big chunks with gas torches. Those large sections are then set on ground and taken apart by an army of ant-like workers who separate all elements, which are later sent away by trucks to be melted down.

Hong Kong Industrial Photographer - Goodman Logistics

Documenting large scale industrial projects has always been a personal favorite type of commercial photography. This recent corporate assignment just took me to Hong Kong for a week of shooting, covering several logistic centers in and around the container port of HK, which is one of the largest in the world. The aim of this project was to find high angles over each site to give a good overview of the warehouses and their surrounding environment, as well as to give a sens of the scale of these massive projects. There was a lot of rooftop climbing involved to get this done. Another part of the job was to show the sites in operation, focusing on activities such as transport, storage and delivery of containers.

With so many luxury stores opening all around China, Shanghai photographers have been busy recently covering series of spectacular events. On my side I was assigned by agency Actuasia to cover several Louis Vuitton openings along with fellow photographer Patrick Wack, including the brand's new flagship store in Chengdu as well as their Series 1 launch in Shanghai. Both events featured local and international celebrities such as Fan Bing Bing, Adèle Exarchopoulos and Chloë Sevigny.

China Lifestyle Photographer - Germain Tailors, Shanghai

Outtake from a recent portrait session: a new advertising campaign for the french tailor "Germain" in Shanghai. Germain has been working within the textile industry in China for over 7 years, producing high-end bespoke suits for men. He has already supplied some of the world's most famous brands with his craft. For selected clients, he has recently opened his own little private studio in the quiet heart of Shanghai's old French Concession.

As a photographer, I've had the chance to work with Germain on many occasions, following him from busy factories and colorful markets to trendy design studios and fancy art galleries... I have documented the whole process of his art. Meanwhile, I have learned a great deal from the values and lifestyle of a classic tailor living from his passion, far away from home, against all winds of modern society.

China Luxury Event Photographer - Shanghai Fashion Week

This week I had the opportunity to take backstage photos for a fashion show in Shanghai, documenting the preparation and off-moments of the event. I worked with my new Nikon D600 on this assignment, which appears to be a surprising and amazing little camera on the field, absolutely suitable for any demanding professional photographer. I was very pleased with the rich, sharp, deep files it produces. The girls were nice, too.
